Let The Right One In
October 18, 2008
Let The Right One In was the recipient of the critics award at this years Natfilm Festival in Copenhagen. The film is really hit and miss, so you’re either going to love it or hate it. The director, Tomas Alfredson has stayed true to the art house roots he started in Four Shades of Brown and he typically steers clear of formulas and cliches which are related to tales of vampires.

New Authorized Dracula Sequel In the Works
October 10, 2008
Bram Stoker’s great grandnephew, Dacre Stoker has sold the rights to the sequel of Bram’s classic novel to an alliance of publishers, including Dutton US, Harper UK, and Penguin-Canada. The new novel will appear in October 09. The writers were able to access Stoker’s original hand written notes for thenovel , which is to be called “The Undead”. Perhaps the most exciting news about this deal is that horror movie fans will be seeing a sequel as well.
In order to coincide with the release of the novel, a feature film will be made. While there isn’t much news concerning directors or actors, a small tidbit has been released concerning the plot. The story takes place in London, in 1912. Someone is stalking the band of adventurers who defeated the vampire Dracula almost 25 years ago. It will be interesting to see how this pans out, especially since the movie will be adapted from Stoker’s hand written notes. You can expect to hear more information on this deal in the coming months, as a studio is chosen and directors and actors are signed to the project. Dracula fans should be very excited about the potential this film/novel deal offers.
Twilight The Next Harry Potter With A Horror Twist?
October 6, 2008
Breaking Dawn, the last book in the Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyer hit shelves earlier in August and has caused quite an uproar among fans looking forward to the movie, and those who are skeptical about the movie being shown to the young audience it is intended for. Admittedly the subject matter is no more controversial than wizards and magic, which the Harry Potter books are famous for, so we could have a new behemoth in the world of Tween movies, this time bearing a “horror” moniker.
The story follows the protagonist of the books, Bella Swan, who is sent to live with her father in dreary Forks, Washington after her mother remarries. Once there, she’s fascinated with one Edward Cullen, who’s stark white appearance isn’t the only startling thing about him and the rest of his family. Bella soon finds out Edward, along with the rest of his “family”, is a vampire and becomes enthralled with Edward, not only because he is her soul mate, but simply because she loves him. While this isn’t the first time someone has fallen in love with a vampire, if the movie stays true to the books, fans will have lots to expect.
