Trick r’ Treat

Trick r’ Treat isn’t due out until 2009, but the premise for the movie is worth mentioning early. The movie takes place in an unnamed town during All Hallows Eve in which four groups of people all have their own unique story to tell. One story follows Dylan Baker and his son who have perhaps too much fun with a group of trick or treaters, with another following Anna Paquin and her friends who are out partying it up in the middle of the woods. Another story follows a group of kids who are taking pumpkins to the site of a crash where it’s said the spirits of the dead are haunting the area. Last, we have an old man who gets visited by a costumed boy who teaches him the meaning of the holiday.

Dance of the Dead Released

The film was originally shown at London’s Frightfest, but Ghost House Underground will be releasing a DVD version for your fans who want to sink your teeth into it. The movie is basically comedic teen oriented horror which attempts to pull off a zombie comedy hybrid. The storyline is pretty cookie cutter, a power plant causes a zombie outbreak and only the geeks in town can save the town. The redeeming quality of the movie is the script and nicely acted characters, not to mention a whole batch of fine performances from the actors who are actually the age which they are playing. You’ve got your goofball hero and his sidekicks saving the day, which is little more than you could expect from this indie film.

Road to Hell

Road to Hell is Albert Pyun’s unofficial sequel to the 1984 fable Streets of Fire. The whole project is quite ambitious, as it hits more often than it misses, but it does suffer from a few technical issues. The whole movie is shot entirely on a green screen, and Pyun has considered scrapping some of the project in order to go with a more Sin City black & white feel. Since there is no final version, we’re setting tech stuff aside to focus on the storyline that will be offered in Road to Hell.
Michael Paré and Deborah Van Valkenburgh will be reprising their roles from the original film, as Cody and his sister, which provides the link between the films. Road to Hell opens with her giving a brief summary of events which has brought her mercenary brother to the point of madness, which is where the story starts. Cody has a single mission, which is to find Ellen, in hopes she can be his salvation. Cody soon finds he’s not alone in Edge City, where people who’ve blurred the line between dark and light go to have their soul reborn.

Dark Reel

Dark Reel is starts in the ’50s. A starlet by the name of Scarlett May is horrifically butchered during a screen test. Over the years, her case gains notoriety for the brutal nature of the crime, as well as the fact that the person who committed the grisly murder was never caught. Fast forwarding a little bit, 53 years to be exact, and a down trodden horror movie fan named Adam Waltz has just won a walk-on role in the horror film Pirate Wench, starring his favorite horror queen, Cassie Blue. Studio head Connor Pritchett, who’s legendary fame has been sinking over the years, hopes the walk-on roll will boost the publicity of the film.

Quarantine

Not sure if you want to see the upcoming horror flick, Quarantine? Well, let us help you make up your mind! The basic plot for the movie seems like a cross between Cloverfield and The Blair Witch Project, but don’t let that turn you off! Here’s the plot for the horror flick which will be released this Friday.
The movie follows television reporter Angela Vidal and her cameraman. They are assigned to spend the night shift with a Los Angeles Fire Station. After a routine 911 call takes the group to a small apartment building, they find police officers who are already on the scene in response to screams coming from one of the units. The group soon learns that a woman who is living in the building has become infected with something entirely unknown. A few residents were viciously attacked and they try to escape, only to find the CDC has quarantined the building. Phones, Internet, televisions, all forms of communication are cut off to the building, and officials are no longer speaking or relaying information to those who are locked inside. Once the quarantine is lifted, the only evidence of the grisly horrors which took place inside the building is the news crew’s camera.

Rest Stop 2: Don’t Look Back

The original Rest Stop was a pretty pitiful attempt at a movie. Therefore, it stands to reason that the sequel would probably be made from the same generic mold. However, Rest Stop: Don’t Look Back surprised me. While it’s not the greatest horror flick in the world, it is far better than the previous attempt at the same concept. The story is more hashed out, even though the script feels sort of rushed. In Rest Stop 2, we learn more about the ghostly driver and his back story , as well as an Indian legend which says if you’re eyes are plucked out and you’re buried with them, you’re spirit is doomed to walk forever on earth.
Resurrection County

Resurrection County combines three necessary things in order to have a great slasher flick. Gore, death and violence all play out, entwined with revenge and loyalty, making Resurrection County a must watch flick for those who want something a little different from their horror movie. The story revolves around four tourists, a brother and sister and their significant others, heading to Resurrection County to go camping. The brother is pissed at his best friend for getting his sister pregnant, so they go out for a four wheeler ride. Not surprisingly, they get lost and enter a “Do Not Trespass” lot where they meet a black man with a mean shotgun who is equally pissed. After shots ring out, the real movie fun begins. It’s a brutal journey about choosing loyalty and taking care of those you love, above those who choose to remain loyal to the wrong doer. The movie does force you to take a side, so be ready.
Splinter Preview

Splinter has flown under the radar, for no good reason. The movie is set around a quiet gas station on a lonely stretch of freeway, though the gas station is home to more than just a pit stop. It harbors a terrifying virus-like monster which inhabits its victims bodies and drives them on a relentless lust for blood. The virus begins to twist the bodies of its prey into shapes which are best suited to carry out its desire to infect more victims and kill again.
The low budget flick is filled with juicy little elements which, when combined will give you one hell of a scare. The special effects are a mix between CGI and standard effects, and during most of the creature shots, it looks as if there’s an actual corpse on the screen. You’ll see limbs crack and break, corpses slam themselves around, and of course, the monster tearing people apart via limb removal, which is perhaps the most shocking scene in the movie.

The story follows Bella Swan, a girl who has always been a little bit different than everyone else and couldn’t care less as to whether she fit in or not. Going to high school in Phoenix, Arizona made her stand out quite a bit as she didn’t exactly pull off the fake and trendy life style that her classmates had. Bella’s life to a drastic turn after her mother remarried and sent her to live with her father in the humdrum town of Forks, Washington. It was there that she met the mysterious and beautiful Edward Cullen.
Besides having the ability to see almost directly into her soul and sweep her off her feet, Edward isn’t exactly like other boys. That’s because he’s been around old enough to have been the grandfather to most of the kids he goes to school with. As an immortal vampire, Edward has made an unorthodox decision to get involved with a human. But is she his soul mate?

It’s unfortunate that so few horror fans know of the great H.P. Lovecraft. Well before what we consider to be horror movies graced the screen, writer H.P. Lovecraft was weaving tales so wicked that you may even find yourself more uncomfortable at night after reading The Rats In The Walls than if you had watched SAW in bed. With such a twisted and deep world that Lovecraft has created, nothing has been more revered and more referenced then the unspeakable evil known only as Cthulhu.
The upcoming film Cthulhu is based heavily off of the literary work of Lovecraft, and follows the journey of a lowly Seattle history professor on his journey to the coast of Oregon. The professors has been feeling drawn back to his estranged family due to his need to execute his late mother’s estate. While the positive part of his trip has been catching up with his old childhood friend in a long awaited tryst, the professor unfortunately discovers that his father is involved in a New Age cult planning some very sinister and apocalyptic events in the not so distant future.
