Rage review

Every so often an independent horror film comes along that manages to sustain the tension and doesn’t play it for laughs, Rage is one of those films. Rick Crawford is Dennis Twist, an ordinary guy with a n ordinary life. On his day off, he heads into town, telling his wife Crystal (Audrey Walker) he needs to run some errands, when in reality he’s meeting his mistress Dana (Anna Lodej) and break up with her.

While he’s parking up, Dennis cuts off a biker (Christopher Witherspoon) for a parking space. This is never a good idea at the best of times, but Dennis has more on his mind today. When he is breaking up with Dana, we find out that she has an ex  boyfriend who is an ex con that, understandably, isn’t best pleased that Dennis exists at all, so that’s just another reason to get out of the clandestine relationship.

Once Dennis has said is last goodbyes, he heads back to his car, only to be confronted by the aforementioned biker who, in a nifty manoeuvre involving a rather large combat knife, ‘keys’ his car. The real games now begin, and we have to work out if the biker is Steven, Dana’s disgruntled ex, or somebody a lot more dangerous.

Rage is a film full of theories; from the blatantly obvious through to the metaphysical, and, depending on your point of view, they all have a valid place here. We are certainly kept in suspense as the story unfolds, building our expectations and raising the intensity. This is a good remake and far from a cheap knock off, it pays respect to the original while still bringing its own take to the table, this is well worth seeing.
