Marcus Nispel takes on Hack/Slash

Marcus Nispel, the director of the Conan the Barbarian reboot is the latest director to be hired to take the helm of Hack/Slash, according to THR. Based on the Tim Seeley comic book of the same name, Hack/Slash is a twist on the slasher side of the horror genre, and tells the story of Cassie Hack, who survived an attack by a sadistic killer and decides to track down slashers of the Jason and Michael Myers ilk, assisted by Vlad, her protector.

Hack/Slash has actually been in development since 2006, and has numerous directors come and go, although they might finally have the right man for the job with Nispel, who is certainly qualified. He is no stranger to the horror genre either, having directed the remakes of Friday the 13th, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and being at the helm for the slashing and hacking Nordic invaders in 2007′s Pathfinder.

German born Nispel takes over a well worn directors chair that has previously been occupied by the Swedish born video director Fredrik Bond and Todd Lincoln, who is the man responsible for the upcoming ‘The Apparition’.

Screenwriter Stephen Susco, the man behind the Grudge, was hired in November 2009 to write the script, back when the project was with Rogue Pictures. Since Relativity acquired the films rights, it is unknown whether or not Susco’s script will still be used.

No casting decisions have been made either, although Kat Dennings (2 Broke Girls, Thor) publicly announced her interest in playing Cassie back in 2009. There has also been a groundswell of fans supporting the actress Allison Scagliotto, best known for her part in the ScyFy channel’s Warehouse 13, to take the role.
