Suspiria to be remade
David Gordon Green has been thinking about during a remake of Suspiria by Dario Argento for the last few years mentioning the idea here and there in interviews. In fact, back in March he even went as far as to say once
The Sitter hit the theatres he would start to work on Suspiria. For those who are wondering if the cult classic is ever going to get made Green announced that he has turned in the script to his studio and now they are starting to a look at the budget to see if it is going to work.
According to Green, the studio is checking out locations, a budget, and casting options. Most people are probably going to be happy that the script is complete, but the idea that it may be hinging on a budget assignment is a bit scary because it’s not a big secret that budget concerns are the main reason that films never actually see the light of day. After all, it’s already been four years since Green first mentioned the project which makes it is a little less likely that the film will ever see the light of day since if they were really interested in it that would have been the time.
Green explained that the film needs a certain type of support because the horror genre is very specialized at the moment and the audience for the cult classic is unique. He added that those who love hits like Paranormal Activity will likely be drawn to Suspiria making it a good time for this film to come to life since it would be great at the box office as well. He did add that it would have to be a lot more astounding in turns of visuals because audiences now expect that type of thing.
Therefore, budget is a large concern and one that is really a block to the pre-production stage of the film. However, the good news is that Green tends to do pretty well at making films look large budget even when they are not so if you want someone in charge of a tight budget then what you want is Green in charge. At least he seems optimistic about the movie stating that he hopes to get to make it because he feels like he is getting closer to the point where a Suspiria remake may just come to life.
