Grave Encounters review
Films that are lost footage based are always either a love them or hate them experience because there is always the chance of a great collage film, but only if enough is shown and enough is held back to make it worth your time. With a large budget such as the $25m one that Cloverfield had there is a lot that can be done with this type of film, but with a $2m budget for Grave Encounters you do not expect to actually see much. However, this time around there was enough people trying for that great finish because this time it really worked.
Written and directed by The Vicious Brothers, the film sets viewers down in the trusted horror setting of a mental asylum. Sean Rogerson takes on the role of lead of ghost hunting reality television host as Lance Preston who leads his crew as they shoot inside of the an old psychiatric hospital. The group from the show ‘Grave Encounters’ locks themselves into the asylum for the night and that is where the fun and the evil really start.
While you will notice plenty of similarities to previous films of the same nature like ‘House on Haunted Hill’ and ‘Blair Witch’ the film has enough to offer on its own that it works out great. Once you get over the fact that it’s a footage film you will likely have some fun getting taken along for the ride.
