Cry Baby Lane review

Apparently Cry Baby Lane was conceived with the idea that it would be a million dollar theatre blockbuster, butParamountdid not have the same idea as director Peter Lauer which is why the cast ended up being a bunch of C-list actors and eventually ended up on television instead of the silver screen.  Despite almost getting scrapped altogether, the resulting film was actually not too bad and while it may not be all that horrific since it was aimed at the Nickelodeon audience, it is actually quite entertaining and enjoyable to watch.

The film is based on brothers Andrew and Carl who regularly visit the local undertaker because he tells them scary stories.  On the night they visit that the film takes place the undertaker tells them about conjoined twins that were born to a farmer and explains that one was good and the other was evil.  As the father could not deal with this fact and could not separate them he choose to keep them locked up in a room until their death years later at which point they were sawed in half with the good twin buried in a cemetery and the other buried in a ditch on a dirt road.

Soon comes Halloween and the young boys hold a séance at the good twin’s gravestone, but they are not aware that the bodies were actually switched and they are communicating with the evil twin who takes over the town causing the people of the town to become violent.  Now it’s up to the boys to save the town.  While this is obviously not any gore or real blood in the children’s flick, the premise is actually cute and watching it told from a child’s point of view instead of the adult horror point of view that horror fans are used to is very interesting as it is much more creative and imaginative breathing a little bit of fresh air into the horror genre.
