Sam Raimi is well known for his heavyweight horror flicks that have thriller teens and adults since his classic Evil Dead hit the screens back in 1981.

He has moved on since then, directing and producing for all kinds of movie and TV productions, including Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules the incredibly successful TV shows.

As well as big screen outings including Boogeyman and the Grudge, and Spiderman. He is currently making a re-working of the Evil Dead for release next year.

It seems though he has developed a new interest and has teamed up with the horror people at Ghost House Pictures and its boss Rob Tapert to move into a new venture “family horror movies”.

The new company will have the appropriate name of “Spooky Pictures” and will set out to scare family audiences into watching horror movies together.

As their first effort they will produce a remake of a Danish 2007 thriller movie originally titled The Substitute. They have engaged Exorcism Of Emily Rose director Scott Derrickson to helm the new version. And Columbia are putting up the cash with first option on the company’s next family horror

Paul Harris Boardman (Emily Rose Writer) and Derrickson will pen the new version to make it more palatable for American audiences. The story revolves around a new substitute teacher, who his 6th grade class discover, is really and evil and dastardly alien.

Tapert and Raimi will be in charge of the new production with Nathan Kahane and Russell Hollander doing all the real work as executive producers.
