Rest Stop 2: Don’t Look Back

The original Rest Stop was a pretty pitiful attempt at a movie. Therefore, it stands to reason that the sequel would probably be made from the same generic mold. However, Rest Stop: Don’t Look Back surprised me. While it’s not the greatest horror flick in the world, it is far better than the previous attempt at the same concept. The story is more hashed out, even though the script feels sort of rushed. In Rest Stop 2, we learn more about the ghostly driver and his back story , as well as an Indian legend which says if you’re eyes are plucked out and you’re buried with them, you’re spirit is doomed to walk forever on earth.
Neither of the plot points are developed really well, giving you just enough to make sense of what’s happening on screen. The creepy fanatical family featured in the first film also makes an appearance in the second, though using religious zealots in films shows a certain lack of creativity. Aside from these issues, the movie is quite good. It couples a few good creepy scenes with stereotypical but likeable characters. Despite its supernatural slasher moniker, the movie doesn’t have that much gore. You’ll have your fill of freshly plucked eyeballs, but most of the gore action takes place off screen, leaving some of the torture to the viewers imagination.
