Del Toro Talks Frankenstein
Once his work is complete on the two Hobbit films slated to be released in 2012, optimistic director Guillermo del Toro has a slew of projects which should keep him occupied until 2017. Talk about job security. One of his projects will be a new version of Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde, as well as his adaptation of Lovecraft’s At The Mountains of Madness. In addition to these two, he also talks briefly about his own version of Frankenstein, which he hopes to begin writing shortly.
Del Toro admits to being a huge Frankenstein fan and even has busts of Boris Karloff as the monster in his home. He states that one of the biggest influences in his film career was the 1973 Spanish film, “The Spirit of the Beehive”, which revolves around the showing of the classic version of Frankenstein. However, the version of the film Del Toro is speaking about is decidedly different that what we’ve come to expect from classic monster pictures. He admits he’s not doing Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Instead, he says he’ll be doing an adventure story which involves the creature, and that Frankenstein isn’t the central creation of the story. Del Toro doesn’t say much else, other than making a Frankenstein film has been a life long dream of his since he was a child. Honestly, we can’t wait to see what Del Toro does when he gets his hands on the film, as all of his tales have been masterfully done.
