The X-Files: I Want To Believe

Fans of the X-Files franchise have been waiting a long time for another reunion of the extraordinarily popular award winning television series, The X-Files. The film reunites the two stars of the series, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, with the shows creator Chris Carter. Carter co-wrote the screenplay for the new film with Frank Spotnitz and both have kept the storyline under wraps to keep the typical X-Files secretive feel.

What is known about the film is that it is a complete stand-alone story in the same fashion that some of the older episodes of the show had managed to do. Much time has passed since the ending of the series, leaving Fox Mulder (Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Anderson) in completely different places. Mulder hasn’t given up his search for truth and no matter what Scully does, it doesn’t look like she can find herself left out of these pursuits. The story had to do with a new file that has some how drawn these two back together yet again.

The title of the film has many fans excited as the line “I Want To Believe” has been seen on the poster in Mulder’s office during the shows run. The film was made with the goal of being highly suspenseful and Carter has hopes that it will leave many scared.

Where the first movie required anyone who saw it to have a solid grasp of the show, The X-Files: I Want To Believe does not require that at all. The entire movie was crafted to be self standing enough that if you took out the X-Files relevance, it could still be a strong enough movie on it’s own. But for those X-File fans out there, don’t worry, there are plenty of references to keep you smirking.
